COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon. The number of cases has begun to skyrocket, and areas of the country that had begun to open up again are about to implement restrictions and mask mandates again. Could lockdowns soon follow?
One thing’s for sure. As the numbers grow, worry and depression are sure to grow also. But MUST we go down that dark rabbit hole again?
In my new book You Aren’t Depression’s Victim, I discuss ways to step back from the edge of the depression pit. It’s not easy, but it can be done. Here are a few suggestions and steps you can take to help yourself not fall automatically into depression.
- What can you point to in your life that you’re grateful for? Regularly looking for what I call the “small miracles” in my life makes a BIG difference in my perspective.
- Have you noticed your self-talk lately? How we talk to and about ourselves can be incredibly negative. Being aware of this can help you begin to change it. Self-defeating self-talk CAN be shifted to something more positive if you pay attention.
- When you’re depressed, what do you physically do? Notice the small things. Then make a different choice. For me, getting up off the couch and doing something physically active helps my mood A LOT. Try it and see.
We aren’t obligated to repeat the past. We don’t always have to react the same way to the same circumstances. There are other options and possibilities. Don’t believe me? Then check out my new book on Amazon and see. What do you have to lose?
